FCDO — secure collaboration across boundaries
Helping civil servants communicate, collaborate and build workflows around sensitive information — often across security boundaries.
The problem
Some of the hardest problems in government aren’t technical. They’re about getting people to work together when the information is sensitive and the boundaries — between systems, classifications and teams — are real and can’t simply be designed away.
The work
Our experience includes work inside the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office on exactly that: helping civil servants communicate, collaborate and build the workflows they depend on, around information that has to be handled carefully, and across boundaries that have to be respected. That means understanding the real needs of the people doing the work, the constraints they operate under, and the lines they can’t cross — then shaping services and ways of working that hold all of it together while still letting people get things done.
Why it matters
When the stakes and the sensitivity are this high, getting collaboration right is a design problem as much as a security one. This is deliberately a high-level account — the value is in the kind of problem, not the detail.
